Arizona Lottery Pick 3 Sum of Digits - Frequency and Last Appearance

The Arizona Lottery Pick 3 sums analysis involves two sets of data. The first is the number of times a sums is drawn for the entire history of the game while the second set is how many draws have elapsed since a Pick 3 sums's last appearance. Whether sums are included as a play type of the state's game or not, these analyses coupled with others, such as digits and pairs analyses, will hopefully help you select the numbers to play.

Pick 3 sum analysis is more complex than digits or pairs analysis since "Not all sums are created equal". Sums of 13 and 14 are the most likely to be drawn since they cover 75 numbers each (see table below). On the other hand, 0 and 27 are the least likely since each covers only one number, 000 and 999, respectively. Therefore, for every 1000 draws, while sums of 13 and 14 can fall 75 times each, sums of 0 and 27 are expected only once. A general description of 3-digit sums together with the sum values and the list of numbers having that sum can be found at 3-digit sums of this web site.

The sum analysis for Arizona Pick 3 was performed on Saturday, May 18, 2013 with 282 as the latest number. The sum of the digits of this number is 12.
The analyses results are summarized in the table below.

The first column of the table is the sum value. The second column lists how many Pick 3 numbers have a sum value of the first column. And what those numbers are will pop up when you place your mouse over it. (If you don't see the pop-up list, your browser might not support it; the same list is available here.) Note that only the box representations of the Pick 3 numbers are listed. For example, corresponding to a sum of 3, three numbers are listed (003, 012, 111). The first is a double, therefore has 3 permutations, the second is non-repeating, thus with 6 permutations, the triple has only one. So, 6 + 3 + 1 = 10 numbers have a sum of 3.

Both the Arizona Lottery Pick 3 'Frequency' and 'Last Appearance' parts of the above list contain the actual values as well as the expected values (rounded to their integral values). For the frequencies, a direct comparison of the two values will indicate if a Pick 3 sum is more, or less frequently drawn than expected. We have also introduced another column designated as "Factor", which indicates how high or low the actual frequency is compared to the expected value. If the "Factor" is greater than 1, it means that the Pick 3 sum is drawn more times than expected, and vice versa. If the two values are very close to each other, the Factor will be 1 or very close to 1.

The expected values of the "Last Appearance" culumn are actually how often that Arizona Pick 3 sum is expected to be drawn. For example, sums of 0 and 27 are expected every 1000 draws, while 13 and 14 should show up every 13 draws. A very late Pick 3 sum will have its actual value very much greater than the expected value. Just as an eye-catcher, we will show in blue those Arizona Pick 3 sums that are late by more than 1.5 times the expected time lapse, and in red, those that are late by more than twice this value.
