California Lottery Daily 3 General Information and Links
|
The California Daily 3 lottery is a 3-digit game with three ways to play, which makes it one of the 3-dgit lottery games in
the US with the fewest options of play types. The California Daily 3 is unique for the fact that, unlike other states that assign
fixed prizes, the prizes of CA Daily 3 are allocated on pari-mutuel basis. That means Daily 3 prizes are based on the amount
wagered per draw and the number of winners dividing that amount.
California Daily 3 drawing schedule: Daily 3 drawings are held twice a day, midday and evening. Midday
drawings are held at approximately 1:30 p.m. everyday and evening drawings are held at approximately 7 p.m. daily.
California Daily 3 drawing method: The winning Daily 3 numbers are drawn using computerized random number generators.
Please see California Lottery Draw Procedures.
The first draw of California lottery Daily 3 midday was held on November 4, 2002 with 884 as the first winning number.

How to Play California Lottery Daily 3
First off, walk into any retailer (a gas station, a convenience store, a food store, etc. which plays California Lottery) and grab
a Daily 3 playslip. A playslip contains five different play areas, marked Play A through Play E. Each play area represents
a different Daily 3 play. If you want to play only one number, fill out only the Play A panel. if you want to play 15 numbers,
then get three playslips and fill all the panels, A to E, of all of them.
Each play panel contains three rows of the digits 0 to 9. Mark the first digit of your number on the first row, the second digit
of your number on the second row, and the third digit of your number on the third row. So, if you want to play the number 195, then
1 will be marked in the first row, 9 in the second row, and 5 in the third row. Next select and mark the the type of play (Playetyle) -
Straight, Box, or Straight/Box. Each Daily 3 game costs $1.
Next, present the completed playslip to the lottery retailer to receive your printed ticket. Check your ticket immediately to
ensure that the numbers, dates, and play type match your request.

Play Types and How You Win the California Daily 3 Lottery
There are three ways you can play the California Daily 3 game - two basic types and one shortcut of the basic two. These types
are listed below.
The basic Daily 3 play types are:
Straight: You win by matching numbers in the exact order drawn. For example, if you play 195 as
Straight, you'll win only if the Daily 3 winning number is 195; you don't win anything if the winning number is 159 or 196.
The prize of California Daily 3 Straight game is paid on pari-mutuel basis.
Box: You win by matching numbers in any order. For example, if you play 195 as Box, you'll win if the Daily 3
winning number contains the three digits 1, 5, and 9 in any order, such as 951 or 519; but not if any one is missing like 196.
The prize of California Daily 3 Box play depends on whether one of the digits is repeated or not. A number such as 195, where
none of the digits repeats is called a 6-way box and pays in the neighborhood of $80. If one of the digits is double, like
884, then it is called a 3-way box and pays about $160. There is no box play for numbers with all three identical digits
such as 666. These Daily 3 numbers can only be played Straight.
And the shortcut play types are:
Straight/Box: is simply a combination of a 50-cent Straight play and a 50-cent Box play.
The prize of a Straight/Box play is the sum of a 50 cents Straight game and a 50-cents Box game. For example, if you play 195
as Straight/Box, and if the Daily 3 winning number is 195, then you'll win half the prize of the Straight game plus half the prize of a
Box game. If the winning number is 159, you'll win only the Box part since you did not match it Straight.
