District Of Columbia Lottery - DC-5 General Analysis
Updated on Tuesday, May 21, 2013
Several analyses can be performed on District Of Columbia Lottery DC-5 past winning numbers. However, while straight numbers analysis
was reasonable for 3-digit games, where there are only 1,000 possible numbers.
It was not that helpful in 4-digit games, where there are 10,000 possible numbers, since
most of the numbers were not drawn yet. When it comes to the DC-5 (a 5-digit game), straights analysis is
just out of the question even after thousands of draws; there are 100,000 numbers.
On the other hand, box (any arrangement of the digits) analysis is quite reasonable for both 3- and 4- digit games
with a few hundreds of draws. But, for the DC-5, we still need a couple of thousands of draws to identify
the hot and cold boxes.
In the mean time we shall only classify the 100,000 possible DC-5 numbers into the various types of boxes
and list their respective probability.
| Box Type | Description | Example | Combinations | Numbers in this catagory | Probability |
Non-repeating (120-way box) | All 5 distinct digits | 12345 | 252 | 30,240 | 30.24% |
One-repeating (Doubles) (60-way box) | 3 distinct and one doubled | 11234 | 840 | 50,400 | 50.4% |
Two-repeating (Dual-Doubles) (30-way box) | 2 of the digits doubled | 11223 | 360 | 10,800 | 10.8% |
Triple (20-way box) | 1 of the digits tripled | 11123 | 360 | 7,200 | 7.2% |
Double-Triple (10-way box) | 1-doubled and 1-tripled | 11122 | 90 | 900 | 0.9% |
Quadruples (5-way box) | 1 of the digits quadrupled | 11112 | 90 | 450 | 0.45% |
Quintuples (1-way only) | All 5 digits identical | 11111 | 10 | 10 | 0.01% |
| Total | | | 2002 | 100,000 | 100% |
Note that while there are 100,000 distinct DC-5 numbers, there are only
2002 boxes (any arrangement of the digits). Moreover, numbers with one digit doubled are the most
probable numbers to be drawn.
