How to Play Louisiana Pick 4 Lottery
From a Louisiana Lottery retailer (a gas station, a convenience store, a food store, etc. which plays LA Lottery) get
a Pick 4 playslip. A playslip contains five different play areas. Each play area represents a different Pick 4 play. If you want
to play only one number, fill out only the first panel; if you want to play 10 numbers, then get two playslips and fill all the
panels of both of them.
Each play panel contains four columns of the digits 0 to 9. Mark the first digit of your number on the first column, the second digit
on the second column, the third digit on the third column, and the fourth digit on the fourth column. So, if you want to play
8142, then 8 will be marked in the first column, 1 in the second column, 4 in the third column, and 2 in the fourth column. Next
select and mark the amount (50 cents or $1), then select the type of play - Straight, Box, or Straight/Box, or Combo.
Next, present the completed playslip to the lottery retailer to receive your printed ticket. Check your ticket immediately to
ensure that the numbers, dates, and play type match your request.

Play Types and How You Win the Louisiana Pick 4 Lottery
There are four ways you can play and win the Louisiana Pick 4 game - two basic types and two shortcuts of the basic types. These types
together with how much is paid for a winning Louisiana Pick 4 game type are listed below.
The basic Pick 4 play types are:
Straight: You win by matching the winning Pick 4 number in the exact order drawn. For example, if you play the
8142 as Straight, you'll win only if the winning number is exactly 8142; you don't win anything if the winning number is 8412 or 8144.
The prize of Louisiana Pick 4 Straight game is $5,000 for a $1 game and $2,500 for a 50¢ game.
Box: You win by matching the numbers in any order. For example, if you play 8142 as Box, you'll win if the
Pick 4 winning number contains the four digits 1, 2, 4, and 8 in any order, such as 2148 or 4218; but not if any one is missing like 8144.
The prize of Louisiana Pick 4 box play depends on whether the digits are repeated or not. A number such as 8142, where none of the
digits repeats is called a 24-way box and pays $200 for a $1 game and $100 for a 50¢ game. If one of the digits is
double, like 8182, then it is called a 12-way box and pays $400 for a $1 game and $200 for a 50¢ game. If two digits
are doubled, like 8118, then it is called a 6-way box and pays $800 for a $1 game and $400 for a 50¢ game. If one of
the digits is tripled, like 8188, then it is called a 4-way box and pays $1200 for a $1 game and $600 for a 50¢
game. There is no Box play for numbers with all four identical digits such as 8888. These Pick 4 numbers can only be played Straight.
And the shortcut play types are:
Straight/Box: is simply a combination of a 50¢ Straight play and a 50¢ Box play. This play type is designed
to save you time; it is a shortcut of playing one game of straight and another game of Box of the same number. That is, instead of
filling one panel for 50¢ Straight and another panel for 50¢ Box, of the same number, you might as well fill out just one
panel and mark it as Straight/Box. Note that the minimum amount for a Straight/Box game is $1.
The prize of a Straight/Box play is the sum of a 50¢ Straight game and a 50¢ Box game. For example, if you play 8142
as Straight/Box, and if the winning number is 8142, then you'll win $2600 ($2500 for the Straight part + $100 for the Box part).
If the winning number is 8124, you'll win only $100 for the Box part since you did not match it Straight. How much do you win with
Straight/Box of the number
8182? (Answer),
8118? (Answer),
8188? (Answer).
Combo: This is the same as playing Straight all possible combinations of the selected number. For example, if you
want to win $5,000 on the number 8188 in any order, then you have to play Straight all the possible combinations, namely, 8188,
1888, 8818, and 8881, at a price of $4 ($1 for each). The shortcut is simply to fill out any one of the combinations (say, 1888)
and mark Combo for $1; you'll still pay $4. Note that a $1 combo play of a non-repeating-digit numbers such as 8142 costs $24
since there are 24 possible combinations (1248, 2148, 1284, 1482, etc.).
