How to Play Nebraska Pick 3 Lottery
From a Nebraska Lottery retailer (a gas station, a convenience store, a food store, etc. which plays NE Lottery) get
a Pick 3 playslip. A playslip contains five different play areas. Each play area represents a different Pick 3 play. If you want
to play only one number, fill out only the first play area; if you want to play 15 numbers, then get three playslips and fill all
the play areas of all of them.
Each Pick 3 play area contains three colums of the digits 0 to 9. Mark the first digit of your number on the first column,
the second digit on the second column, and the third digit on the third column. So, if you want to play the number 409, then
4 will be marked in the first column, 0 in the second column, and 9 in the third column. Next select the type of play - Straight,
Box, Straight/Box, or Combo.
Next, present the completed playslip to the lottery retailer to receive your printed ticket. Check your ticket immediately to
ensure that the numbers, dates, and play type match your request. The retailer can cancel the ticket within a few minutes after it
prints. However, a retailer cannot cancel a ticket sold for a given draw after sales have been suspended for that drawing.

Play Types and How You Win the Nebraska Pick 3 Lottery
There are four ways you can play and win the Nebraska Pick 3 game - three basic types and one shortcut of the basic types. These types
together with how much is paid for a winning Nebraska Pick 3 game type are listed below.
The basic Pick 3 play types are:
Straight: You win by matching the winning Pick 3 number in the exact order drawn. For example, if you play the Pick 3
number 409 as Straight, you'll win only if the winning number is exactly 409; you don't win anything if the winning number is 049
or 408.
The prize of Nebraska Pick 3 Straight game is $600.
Box: You win by matching the winning Pick 3 number in any order. For example, if you play 409 as Box, you'll win if the
Pick 3 winning number contains the three digits 0, 4, and 9 in any order, such as 049 or 940; but not if any one is missing like 408.
The prize of Nebraska Pick 3 Box play depends on whether one of the digits is repeated or not. A number such as 409, where none
of the digits repeats is called a 6-way box and pays $100. If one of the digits is double, like 007, then it is called a
3-way box and pays $200. There is no Box play for numbers with all three identical digits such as 777. These Pick 3 numbers
can only be played straight.
Combo: The name Combo used in the Nebraska Pick 3 Lottery game is completely different from its use in other states.
In Nebraska Pick 3, Combo play type means matching 1, 2, or 3 digits in exact position, while in other states it is a shortcut of
a Straight play in any order.
The prize of Nebraska Pick 3 Combo play depends on how many of the digits you have matched in exact position. Matching all the
three digits (like Straight) pays $100, matching two digits in exact positions pays $8, matching only one digit in exact positions pays $1.
And the shortcut play type is:
Straight/Box: is simply a combination of a 50¢ Straight play and a 50¢ Box play. This play type is designed
simply to save you time (and some money); it is a shortcut of playing one game of Straight and another game of Box of the same number.
That is, instead of filling one panel for Straight and another panel Box, of the same number, you might as well fill
out just one panel and mark it as Straight/Box. Note that the prizes are halved since you are placing an immaginary 50¢ bet on
the Straight and Box parts.
The prize of a Nebraska Pick 3 Straight/Box play seems to have been set by a stupid politician rather than a mathematician.
The correct prize of a Straight/Box play should be the sum of a 50¢ Straight game and a 50¢ Box game; this is indeed
true for 6-way box since they pay $350 ($300 for the Straight part + $50 for the Box part). But when it comes to 3-way match, the
prize is still $350 while it should have been $400. Matching only the box part pays $126 instead of the expected $100. We feel that
prizes should be set up according to the probability of each match (like all other srates) rather than favouring one type of matching
over another.
