How to Play Ohio Pick 5 Lottery
From a Ohio Lottery retailer (a gas station, a convenience store, a food store, etc. which plays OH Lottery) get
a Pick 5 playslip. A playslip contains five different play areas. Each play area represents a different Pick 5 play. If you want
to play only one number, fill out only the first play area; if you want to play 15 numbers, then get three playslips and fill all
the play areas of all of them.
Each Pick 5 play area contains three rows of the digits 0 to 9. Mark the first digit of your number on the first column,
the second digit on the second column, the third digit on the third column, the fourth digit on the fourth column, and the fifth
digit on the fifth column. So, if you want to play the number 40973, then 4 will be marked in the first column, 0 in the second column,
9 in the third column, 7 in the fourth column, and 3 in the fifth column. Next select and mark the amount (50¢
or $1), then select the type of play - Straight, Box, Backup, Front 2 (F2), Back 2 (B2), Front 3 (F3), Back 3 (B3), Front 4 (F4), Back 4 (B4).
If you are playing Front or Back options, then mark only the necessary areas. For example, for Back 3, mark only the last three columns
and leave the rest (first two columns) blank.
The numbers you are playing are valid only for the next draw. If you want to specify either the day or evining draw, or both, you
can do so by marking the 'MIDDAY', 'EVENING' or 'BOTH' boxes. In fact, playing for both draws doubles the price.
Next, present the completed playslip to the lottery retailer to receive your printed ticket. Check your ticket immediately to
ensure that the numbers, dates, and play type match your request. The retailer can cancel the ticket within a few minutes after it
prints. However, a retailer cannot cancel a ticket sold for a given draw after sales have been suspended for that drawing.

Play Types and How You Win the Ohio Pick 5 Lottery
There are nine ways you can play and win the Ohio Pick 5 game - eight basic types and one shortcuts of the basic types. These types
together with how much is paid for a winning Ohio Pick 5 game type are listed below.
The basic Pick 5 play types are:
Straight: You win by matching the winning Pick 5 number in the exact order drawn. For example, if you play the Pick 5
number 40973 as Straight, you'll win only if the winning number is exactly 40973; you don't win anything if the winning number is 04973
or 40873.
The prize of Ohio Pick 5 Straight game is $50,000 for a $1 game and $25,000 for a 50¢ game.
Box: You win by matching the winning Pick 5 number in any order. For example, if you play 40973 as Box, you'll win if the
Pick 5 winning number contains the five digits 0, 3, 4, 7, and 9 in any order, such as 70439 or 39470; but not if any one is missing like 40873.
The prize of Ohio Pick 5 Box play depends on whether one or more of the digits are repeated or not.
- A number such as 40973, where none of the digits repeats is called a 120-way box and pays $417 for a $1 game and $208.50 for a 50¢ game.
- If one of the digits is double, like 40073, then it is called a 60-way box and pays $834 for a $1 game and $417 for a
50¢ game.
- If two digits are doubled, like 40077, then it is called a 30-way box and pays $1,668 for a $1 game and $834 for a 50¢
game.
- If one of the digits is tripled, while the other two are non-identical, like 40070, then it is called a 20-way box and pays
$2,500 for a $1 game and $1250 for a 50¢ game.
- If digits consit of a triple and a double, like 40040, then it is called a 10-way box and pays
$5,000 for a $1 game and $2,500 for a 50¢ game.
- If one of the digits is quadrupled, like 00070, then it is called a 5-way box and pays $10,000 for a $1 game and $5,000 for a
50¢ game.
- There is no Box play for numbers with all five identical digits such as 77777. These Pick 5 numbers can only be played as Straight.
Front Pair (F2): Just select the first two digits to win $50 for a $1 game and $25 for a 50¢ game. For example, if
you play the front pair 40 (i.e., 40XXX), you'll win as long as the first two digits of the winning number are 40 in exact order.
So, you'll win with 40000, 40123, etc., but not with 04000 or 10423.
Back Pair (B2): Just select the last two digits to win $50 for a $1 game and $25 for a 50¢ game. For example, if
you play the Back Pair 73 (i.e., XXX73), you'll win as long as the last two digits of the winning number are 73 in exact order.
So, you'll win with 00073, 12373, etc., but not with 00037 or 73423.
Front Three (F3): Select the first three digits to win $500 for a $1 game and $250 for a 50¢ game. For example, if
you play the front three 400 (i.e., 400XX), you'll win as long as the first three digits of the winning number are 400 in exact order.
So, you'll win with 40000, 40023, etc., but not with 04000 or 10400.
Back Three (B3): Just select the last three digits to win $500 for a $1 game and $250 for a 50¢ game. For example, if
you play the Back three 973 (i.e., XX973), you'll win as long as the last three digits of the winning number are 973 in exact order.
So, you'll win with 00973, 12973, etc., but not with 00937 or 97323.
Front Four (F4): Select the first four digits to win $5000 for a $1 game and $2500 for a 50¢ game. For example, if
you play the front four 4000 (i.e., 4000X), you'll win as long as the first four digits of the winning number are 4000 in exact order.
So, you'll win with 40000, 40003, etc., but not with 04000 or 10400.
Back Four (B4): Just select the last four digits to win $5000 for a $1 game and $2500 for a 50¢ game. For example, if
you play the Back three 0973 (i.e., X0973), you'll win as long as the last four digits of the winning number are 0973 in exact order.
So, you'll win with 00973, 10973, etc., but not with 00937 or 30793.
And the shortcut play type is:
Back-Up Play (Straight/Box): is simply a combination of a 50¢ Straight play and a 50¢ Box play. This play type is designed
simply to save you time; it is a shortcut of playing one game of Straight and another game of Box of the same number. That is, instead of
filling one panel for 50¢ Straight and another panel for 50¢ Box, of the same number, you might as well fill out just one
panel and mark it as Back-Up. Note that the minimum amount for a Back-Up game is $1.
The prize of a Back-Up play is the sum of a 50¢ Straight game and a 50¢ Box game. For example, if you play 40973
as Back-Up, and if the winning number is 40973, then you'll win $25,208.50 ($25,000 for the Straight part + $208.50 for the Box part). If
the winning number is 49037, you'll win only $208.50 for the Box part since you did not match it Straight.
