Multi-Number US Lottery Games
|
Multi-number lottery games are popular in the United States mainly because of the lucrative jackpots they offer. Every time there is no winner of the jackpot,
the prize money rolls over to the next draw thus progressively increasing the top prizes of subsequent draws. Sometimes these jackpots reach several hundreds of millions of dollars
alluring even those ardent lottery-haters and rendering them hyppocratic. Be it interstate games or proper state games, all the 43 states that play lotteries in the United States,
play one form or another of a multi-number game.

How to Play Multi-number Lottery Games
There is probably nothing easier in lottery games than playing multi-number games. Just fill in the 4, 5, or 6 numbers (as specified by the type of game) onto
the play slip and hand it to the store clerk; pay the required amount and he/she will hand you the actual
lottery ticket, then walk out of the store. Basically, that's all to it.
In one-number lottery games (3-Digit and 4-digit games), besides marking individual digits, you also
have to select a play type and specify an amount for each one of your games. Also, depending on the type
of play you have chosen, the order of the digits matters. In multi-number games, on the other hand,
the order of the numbers doesn't matter; you don't have to specify the amount (unless you optionally
choose to play that set of numbers for multiple draws); you don't have to specify the play type.
However, keep in mind that there are two types of multi-number games:
1. games where you select the 4, 5,or 6 numbers from one set of numbers, and
2. games where you select one more additional number from a second set of numbers.
The interstate game 2 by 2 is the only US lottery game that requires two numbers be selected from the second set.

The odds of winning multi-number games are rather high, but keep in mind that somebody wins, and it
might as well be you in the next drawing. You can calculate the odds of winning your state lottery game by using our
Odds calculator. Furthermore, you can wheel your favorite numbers
by using our Full Wheel (Combinations Generator) provided for each multi-number game of your state. Please first read the

Notations Used to Designate Multi-number Lottery Games
Multi-Number Games are usually denoted by the abbreviation n/N, which means that you have to select n numbers from 1 to N.
For example, a Lotto game where you have to select 6 numbers from 1 to 50 is denoted by 6/50.
For multi-number games with two sets, the notation is n/N + m/M, which means that you have to select n numbers from 1 to N from the first set
and m more numbers from 1 to M from the second set. Except the multi-state lottery game called 2 By 2, where you have to
select two numbers from both sets, all US lottery games that fall into this category are played by selecting only one number from the second set (i.e., m = 1).
Thus, the abbreviation n/N + 1/M can be used for these games. The number selected from the second set is usually called the
Mega Ball or the Extra Ball.
There are also some multi-number games where a bonus ball is drawn in addition to the regular numbers. These games
are exactly the same as n/N games as far as the game playing is concerned.
